  • Proactively develop unique research treatments and surgical techniques while independently directing and executing special projects that are high priority for the laboratory.
  • Help out with surgeries by performing them on your own time for coworkers in the lab. This includes stereotactic and visible aspiration lesions, as well as virus/tracer injections, implantation of
  • a chronic electrode and LED array, and insertion of a headpost and chamber. 5
  • Operating Microscopes (Zeiss, Tivato 700), Surgical Neuronavigation System (Cortexplore),
  • Stereotaxic and low-profile head holders (Jerry-rig, USA), Surgical Instruments, Microfluidic Virus
  • Injection Equipment, Chronic Electrode Recording Array Implantation Systems (Blackrock, and others), and more require regular maintenance and training for the staff who use them.
  • Communication between the VMRB and the animal facility is essential for the upkeep of LN facilities.
  • Responsible for coordinating animal-related concerns for the LN.
  • Presents research at national scientific meetings and symposia; gives talks and displays posters at reputable scientific conferences detailing findings from clinical and experimental studies.


  • A Master’s degree is required, preferably in Neuroscience or Biology, but a Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant work experience can also suffice.
  • Experienced with Mac and Windows OSes as well as PowerPoint, Outlook, Excel, and Word.
  • Skilled in the art of writing standard operating procedures.
  • Proven track record working with brain tissue for immunohistochemistry and/or in-situ hybridization.
  • Ability to perform standard histology stains (like Nissel and Weigert) on neural tissue.
  • Talent at juggling multiple tasks while maintaining precision.
  • Superior capacity for analysis, planning, and control of one’s time.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
